New Glype - Getting started
The new Glype 1.0 is out. It’s time to get started with this proxy. It looks to be a lot more user friendly. Very easy to get started right out of the box.
July Updates for Proxy
There are some problems with accessing youtube on the proxy. I’ve tried Internet Explorer and there are no problems. Firefox on the other hand stalls and locks up. I’m using version 2.0.0.15.
Glype will put out a release 1.0 soon, so I’ll update the proxies when it gets released. In the meantime, just use Internet Explorer if you want to access youtube.
The Proxy Summer Is Slow
Wow, traffic has really decreased during the summer. Advertising clickthroughs have decreased by 75% at least. Main page clicks have certainly gone down but during this period you have to put advertising on your proxified pages to make up for it. Sometimes a user can view 4 - 5 pages, whereas for the main page it may only be 1 view.
Definitely look into signing up with Bidvertiser, Canepmedia and Adbrite and putting their ads on your proxified pages. These impressions will keep you motivated until the school season starts back up in August and September. Remember to keep that SEO up, so you’ll be ready.
Browse Anonymously and Make Money
This post should have been my first article. I started with proxies because the phrase, browse anonymously and make money, sparked my interest. I was not familiar with proxies but I knew there were tools out there to browse websites anonymously. I did not think it was possible to make money while providing such a service. My initial goal was not to make hundreds of dollars a day.
I read the proxy forums and figured if I could minimize the costs of hosting and domains, I could profit enough money for a hamburger and a soda each day. I am at the one pack of potato chips a day right now. But the experience from starting and running a proxy has been invaluable.
I learned a lot about advertising networks, php code, tweaking and optimizing keywords, web design and organization. I would definitely recommend this as a start for any online business. So now it’s your turn to browse anonymously and make money.
Promote your Proxy for the Summer
With all the students out of school for the summer and your proxy site getting fewer traffic, I would spend that time optimizing keywords so search engines can pick up your website better. Find out what keywords work to best promote your proxy. I find keywords like proxy and proxies are way overused, so it’s hard to target these words.
Imagine yourself trying to find a working proxy but you do not the proper name for it. What would you put in a search engine? You would most likely type out a sentence describing what you intend to do with the proxy. For example, How do I unblock my firewall?
Keep thinking among these lines and stick to specific keywords that are not flooded in the market.
Designing the Proxy Logo
Getting tired of that same old proxy logo? Need some inspiration? I usually go through my old magazines and find a layout or logo I like and then begin from there. You want to make it clean and simple but still aesthetically pleasing to the viewer.
Stick to a small color palette. Pick two colors you like. The more colors and pictures you use, the more bandwidth you will end up using.

as my colors and used different brightness and contrast to get an overall theme.
